Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage
Both deep tissue and Swedish massage can be booked as either a Full Body Massage (FBM) or Back, Neck & Shoulders (BNS).
Massage – the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body – has been used as a healing therapy for many thousands of years. Records dating back to 2700 B.C. show that in China massage was used to treat paralysis, chills and fever. Hippocrates, the famous Greek physician writing in 400 B.C., recommended that physicians should treat sports and war injuries with massage
Massage can be used to treat a wide range of conditions including stress, insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, diabetes, the muscle spasms and general aches and pains associated with pregnancy, and the mental and emotional problems associated with cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and stroke
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate muscle scar tissue. It is also used for deep knots around the shoulder and and back area as welll as to release triggter ponts.
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Why get a Deep Tissue Massage? It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue.
A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.
What is Swedish Massage?
Swedish massage was developed by Per Henrik Ling who opened the first Swedish institute in London in 1838. Ling developed movements such as ‘effleurage’, a light stroke with more pressure towards the heart that is designed to move toxins from the body; ‘petrissage’ which is a deeper movement to release toxins from the muscle and help to realign the muscle fibres; and ‘tapotement’ that includes movements designed to help stimulate the area and relieve congestion.
If you have a specific area that you wish treated, the massage can be adapted to allow for more focus. A massage helps to move toxins from the muscles, realign muscle fibres, break down knots and nodules. With regular treatments massage helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage (Champissage™) includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face, ears and energy balancing. This method is the brainchild of Narendra Mehta. It is based on the traditional form of Champi (head massage) practised in India for over 1,000 years.
It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy. The massage is safe, simple to learn and very effective to give, without the need to undress or use oils. It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms, insomnia, promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance your energy flow which gives you a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.
