Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage

Both deep tissue and Swedish massage can be booked as either a Full Body Massage (FBM) or Back, Neck & Shoulders (BNS).

Massage – the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body – has been used as a healing therapy for many thousands of years. Records dating back to 2700 B.C. show that in China massage was used to treat paralysis, chills and fever. Hippocrates, the famous Greek physician writing in 400 B.C., recommended that physicians should treat sports and war injuries with massage

Massage can be used to treat a wide range of conditions including stress, insomnia, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, diabetes, the muscle spasms and general aches and pains associated with pregnancy, and the mental and emotional problems associated with cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and stroke

What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate muscle scar tissue. It is also used for deep knots around the shoulder and and back area as welll as to release triggter ponts.

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.

Why get a Deep Tissue Massage? It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue.

A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage was developed by Per Henrik Ling who opened the first Swedish institute in London in 1838.  Ling developed movements such as ‘effleurage’, a light stroke with more pressure towards the heart that is designed to move toxins from the body; ‘petrissage’ which is a deeper movement to release toxins from the muscle and help to realign the muscle fibres; and ‘tapotement’ that includes movements designed to help stimulate the area and relieve congestion.

If you have a specific area that you wish treated, the massage can be adapted to allow for more focus. A massage helps to move toxins from the muscles, realign muscle fibres, break down knots and nodules. With regular treatments massage helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage (Champissage™) includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face, ears and energy balancing. This method is the brainchild of Narendra Mehta. It is based on the traditional form of Champi (head massage) practised in India for over 1,000 years.

It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy. The massage is safe, simple to learn and very effective to give, without the need to undress or use oils. It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms, insomnia, promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance your energy flow which gives you a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.

Our Holistic Awareness :

Every part of your physical body interacts with every other part. This Principle also recognises the complex and subtle interactions between your physical body and your emotions, mind and spirit

Reiki

Reiki is a wonderful healing energy, with the capacity to change lives in the most positive way.  Whether you choose to have treatments or to become a student of Reiki, your life will become more balanced, calm and have more clarity.  Contained within this section, I will explain different elements of Reiki, culminating in an overall sense of the vastness of this energy and its capacity to heal on so many levels.

Reiki treatments provide an opportunity for you to totally relax and rebalance, in a safe and caring environment.  In addition, Reiki helps the body to reach an inner state of harmony on all levels, physically, mentally and spiritually.  As well as helping many physical ailments, it can also promote the changing of any negative mental habits, turning these into more positive and productive thought patterns.  Reiki energy is gentle to receive, yet a powerful form of healing and the benefits can be felt immediately on all levels.

Reiki has grown in popularity over the last few years and is practiced by many holistic practitioners.  It has become widely recognised by conventional doctors and consultants, resulting in some hospitals allowing Reiki practitioners to work alongside doctors to help their patients.

As a natural healing system, Reiki treatments are suitable for everyone, from young babies through to adults as it a safe, non-invasive treatment.  It can be used alongside other complementary therapies or conventional medicine.  Reiki can be administered on a treatment couch or sitting in a chair, therefore making it an easy treatment to receive.  Treatments are fantastic for people who just want to de-stress or for those who may be suffering from an illness or injury.  Reiki can be used as a preventative treatment, helping to keep your body, mind and emotions in balance.

Reflexology

In the feet, there are reflex areas corresponding to all the parts of the body and these areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet with the right foot corresponding to the right side of the body and the left foot corresponding to the left side of the body. By having the whole body represented in the feet the method offers a means of treating the whole body and of treating the body as a whole. This is an important factor of a natural therapy and allows not only symptoms to be treated but also the causes of symptoms.

The method has been used for several thousands of years and is known to have been practised in a similar manner by  the Chinese and the Egyptians. More recently, Reflexology was described in the form in which it is now known by the late Eunice Ingham, an American lady, who based her method of  treatment on work called ‘Zone Therapy’ which had been described some years earlier in the 1920’s by an American,Dr. William Fitzgerald. The main pioneer of Reflexology in Great Britain was the late Doreen Bayly who introduced the method in the early 1960’s and whose great determination to stimulate awareness and interest in the method should  not be forgotten.

Reflexology does not claim to be a ‘cure-all’ but numerous different disorders have been successfully treated by this method. These disorders include such things as migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, breathing disorders, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems and tension and stress. Most people who have experienced Reflexology agree that, aside from specific benefits, it is  also a deeply relaxing therapy.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT

When first visiting a Reflexology Practitioner, a detailed medical history will be taken. The Practitioner will initially examine the feet before commencing with the precise massage movement. The particular type of massage involved requires the application of a firm pressure using the side and end of the thumb on the reflex points. These are the areas corresponding with specific parts of the body.  All other areas on both feet will also be massaged. The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person and the Practitioner will understand the correct pressure to apply and how to interpret any sensitivity felt.

The full treatment session will last approximately three-quarters of an hour and at the end of a session the feet should feel warm and the patient relaxed. The number of treatment sessions required will vary depending on the condition being treated.
